Factory Collapse in Bangladesh

An eight-story building named Rana Plaza collapsed at 9:00am on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, killing over 957 workers with many more injured and missing.

Another Fire in Bangladesh — Seven Women Killed at Smart Fashion

[ACTIVE] At 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013, a fire broke out at the Smart Fashion garment factory in Mohammadpur in the western part of Dhaka City, Bangladesh. Seven women garment workers were crushed to death as workers raced to escape the fire. Three of the women killed were just teenagers.

Criminal Negligence Leads to Tragedy at the Tazreen Fashion Factory in Bangladesh

[ACTIVE] Another deadly factory fire in Bangladesh took well over 100 innocent lives. Tell Wal-Mart, Disney, Sears, Target, Sean Combs and other companies: Never Again!

Romney/Bain invested in brutal Chinese sweatshops

[ACTIVE] “When I was back in my private equity days, we went to China to buy a factory there.” - Mitt Romney. Romney and Bain Capital invested in Global-Tech Appliances and Sensata Technologies, among other companies, while Global-Tech and Sensata outsource jobs to China and force student interns and mostly female workers to work 12 or more hours a day, seven days a week at 99 cents to $1.35 per hour.

VTech Sweatshop in China — AT&T, Motorola, Wal-Mart and others

[ACTIVE] AT&T, Motorola, Wal-Mart, Sony, Philips, Deutsche Telekom and Telstra complicit in abuse and cheating of workers at brutal VTech sweatshop in China.

Chinese Sweatshop in Bangladesh

[ACTIVE] Peek&Cloppenburg, BHS, Coles, Dressmann, Celio, de Bijenkorf, Fynch-Hatton and Smart Set sweaters made in Bangladeshi sweatshop where the right to organize is denied and every single labor law violated.

Holidays by Hasbro—Transformers from Hell

[ARCHIVED December 2011] Labor rights violations are found at Jet Fair Industrial, Hasbro's supplier factory producing Transformers figures.

Style Avenue/El Salvador—NFL, NCAA & Walmart Caught in Sweatshop Scandal

[ARCHIVED Oct-Dec 2011] The NCAA, NFL and Wal-Mart are implicated in a sweatshop scandal, producing their licensed goods at an illegal sweatshop in El Salvador, where women are just paid pennies per garment and stripped of their rights.

Classic/Jordan—Sweatshop Abuse, Sexual Predators

[ACTIVE 2010--Present] Young women workers raped, tortured and beaten at the Classic Factory in Jordan, where they sew clothing for Wal-Mart, Hanes, Target, Macy's, Kohl's, Lands' End and others.

Triangle Returns

[ARCHIVED 2011] On the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, little has changed in the global sweatshop economy. Workers are again trapped and burned to death behind locked exit gates.

GM Workers in India on Strike — Appeal for Solidarity

[ARCHIVED April 2011] Workers manufacturing the popular GM Cruze and Aveo vehicles are paid just 47 to 92 cents an hour. Many of them suffer from permanent spinal cord injuries. This is not the General Motors we know in the United States.

At Ford Sweatshop Supplier in China — Lost Fingers Come Cheap

[ARCHIVED March 2011] At Yuwei Plastics and Hardware, an auto parts factory in Dongguan China, a young man was just 21 when three fingers and several knuckles were torn off his left hand while he was operating a stamping machine making parts for export to Ford.

[ARCHIVED January-June 2011] Women at Ocean Sky factory in El Salvador are paid 8 cents for each $25 NFL T-shirt they sew.

Alianza Fashion — workers robbed of Social Security health care and pension

[ARCHIVED May-September 2010] In Guatemala, workers at the Alianza Fashion factory which produces primarily women woven pants of Briggs New York, Sag Harbor, Fashion Bug, J.M. Collection and Alfani have been robbed of Social Security health care and pension. This case contributed to the United States Trade Representative’s first labor rights enforcement case under CAFTA-DR.

China's Youth Meet Microsoft

[ARCHIVED April 2010] Chinese teenagers toil excessive hours for poverty wages as they manufacture the Microsoft peripherals we use.

Indian Gemstone Workers

[ACTIVE February 2010] More than 2,000 men, women and children in India have died miserable deaths due to silicosis, while polishing gemstones for export to the U.S. and Europe.

Successful Turnaround at P. Diddy Factory in Honduras

[ARCHIVED 2003] Significant improvements were implemented at SETISA factory in Honduras producing Rocawear and Sean John clothing after Sean P. Diddy Combs intervened.

Kathie Lee and Walmart in Honduras, El Salvador and China

[ARCHIVED 1996—1999] Children as young as 12 sewed "Kathie Lee" clothing for Wal-Mart under miserable sweatshop conditions. The Kathie Lee campaign jump-started the entire anti-sweatshop movement in the United State.

A Sweatshop Victory — GAP agreed to independent third party monitoring

[ARCHIVED 1995] A year-long campaign against the GAP for the harsh treatment of workers in the factories of GAP contractors in Central America.

Bangladeshi Garment Workers

[ACTIVE March 2010--Present] Bangladesh is one of the largest garment exporters in the world while its garment workers are the most exploited, earning the lowest minimum wage in the world.

Bangladeshi Shipbreakers

[ACTIVE September 2009--Present] For the last 30 years, over 30,000 shipbreaking workers in Bangladesh-including many children-have been forced to work 12-hour shifts, seven days a week dismantling giant cargo ships, while being paid just 22 to 32 cents an hour. It is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world.
